Cancer is a significant concern for millions of Americans. Tijuana, Mexico's Oasis of Hope Hospital strives to address the situation with holistic and alternative therapies. Oasis of Hope supports the Cancer Control Society (CCS), an organization that promotes non-toxic treatments.
The forerunner of CCS is an international organization of cancer survivors and friends organized by Ms. Cecile Hoffman, who lived for years after a supposedly terminal breast cancer prognosis. The Los Angeles chapter of the group formed the Cancer Control Society in 1973.
CCS’ goal is to educate the public about alternative medicine for cancer and other diseases through print materials, DVDs, and videos. It also publishes a Green Sheet listing alternative medicine providers and a Patient Sheet of people who are willing to share their experiences. CCS phone volunteers also answer cancer-related questions, and can be reached by calling (323) 663-7801.
CCS also sponsors an annual convention, at which some 40 practitioners provide information over a three-day period, with a doctors’ symposium on the fourth day.
